NJ Senate has sanctioned a bill which will allow casino players to place wagers with handheld or portable devices within casino premises. Gamblers can now play their favorite casino games from their hotel rooms, lounges, recreational or swimming pool area.

Bill Sponsored by Former Atlantic City Mayor

The portable gambling bill is the brainchild of a former Atlantic City mayor, Senator James Whelan. He pointed out that handheld devices are already used for gambling purposes in the state of Nevada.

Senator Whelan believes that it is important to adapt to technological changes in order to provide a superior gambling environment to valuable customers. He added that this would also help in keeping ahead of competitors who are increasing with each passing day.

According to Senator Whelan, handheld gambling devices will not only significantly enhance the coffers of the casinos but will also be a unique attraction for land-based casino players. He declared that this decision of the NJ Senate to sanction the bill will place the Atlantic City casinos on an even playing field with those in Nevada that have already approved mobile gambling.

NJ Casino Association Supports Bill

The New Jersey Casino Association has supported the bill and announced plans of permitting the use of secure portable gambling devices with strict guidelines. According to the spokesperson of the association, the bill will establish Atlantic City as the leading gambling destination in the East Coast.

Although several concerns were raised as to the practicality of this bill, certain regulations will ensure that the mobile gambling facility is not misused. The portable or handheld devices will be verified by the Gaming Enforcement Division of the state so that the gadgets do not function outside the premises of land-based casinos.

A mobile gambling account will have to be established and the wagers have to be paid within the casino premises. The bill has garnered numerous supporters who have voiced their pleasure as they feel that such devices will draw more young visitors and players to the city. This is due to the popularity of tablet computers and smartphones among this demographic.
